Scenes and instruments

A scene is a layout recipe over the same instruments. Scenes are not separate pages, and a scene is a starting layout rather than a lock: you can drag, split, tab or close any panel after a scene is applied.

Scenes are selected with the hotkeys 1 to 5, from the global bar, or from the Commands palette (Ctrl K).

HotkeyScenePanels (initial placement)
1ExploreMoon · Evidence · Method (inactive tab)
2AnalyzeMoon · Rows · Cells · Python (inactive tab) · Lab (inactive tab)
3CompareMoon · Cells · Rows · Runs (inactive tab)
4PublishFigure · Rows · Source · Method (inactive tab)
5PresentMoon · Figure

Applying a scene closes every panel except the Moon, and the Moon keeps its viewer (camera, terrain tiles and ROI) when the next scene also shows it. Initial widths are proportional hints and degrade by ratio when the window changes size.

The palette title for each scene is <name> scene; for example, Analyze scene.

The instrument titles in the UI are Moon, Rows, Cells, Lab, Python, Figure, Evidence, Method, Source and Runs. The palette opens them under the names in the table at Keyboard and commands.

Cesium terrain of the Moon with the Site01 footprint. The ROI is drawn or selected here.

  • Draw: press D or use Draw ROI. Click to add vertices; double-click or press Enter to close; Backspace removes the last vertex; Escape cancels. A ring needs at least three vertices before it can be closed.
  • Source ROIs: pick one of the reference ring polygons served by the sidecar. Selecting an ROI frames it in the camera.
  • Cell brushing: with an ROI selected and not in drawing mode, click the Moon to resolve the containing grid cell in Python. The linked cell centre is marked on the Moon. Python refusal reasons, including out-of-grid and outside-ROI, remain visible. See ROI and brushing.
  • Action capsule: the control at the bottom of the Moon opens the downstream instruments.
  • Quality menu: Auto, High, Balanced or Low. This changes display cost only. See Render quality.

Python’s result for each τ, as a table: cell counts, included fraction, slope mean, slope quantiles and a 2-degree histogram. Clicking a row selects that τ (Enter or Space also selects the focused row), which becomes the selected τ in the research context.

  • Display rounding is labelled; the exact Python value is in each tooltip and in the CSV.
  • Export CSV writes the raw values. Columns and filename are listed in Export.

A Perspective grid over the cells inside the ROI, served from the sampled samples block of the evaluation.

  • The cells are a deterministic stride subsample of the ROI mask, capped at 50,000 cells. The panel is labelled SAMPLED.
  • Clicking a cell links its Python coordinates to the Moon marker. Brushing from the Moon scrolls to and highlights the matching source row.
  • Sorting and row pivots keep identity through Perspective’s source indices. Under row pivots, containing groups are highlighted and the smallest group is brought into view.
  • A resolved cell that is absent from the sample shows its Python values with a “not in the sample” note. This is a valid result, not invented data.
  • Nulls stay numeric nulls and are displayed as — through Perspective 3.8.0’s inherited --null--content CSS property.

A preset script for the current ROI, with the ring and τ literals filled in. You can copy it, download it as .py, or open it in Lab. The script binds this sidecar’s manifest and store paths, so it runs as-is on the machine that produced it. See Export.

An editable marimo notebook, generated by the sidecar and served by marimo edit. It is embedded in the panel or opened in a new tab. The notebook is ordinary Python. Results it computes are not promoted to a Study and are not admitted.

A deterministic figure regenerated by Python from the exact numeric rows. The panel previews an SVG and exports SVG, PNG or PDF.

  • Kinds: Histogram (included-cell slope distribution by τ), Inclusion (included over jointly valid cells per τ) and Map (slope with the τ-included cells overlaid).
  • The τ selector is shown only for the Map kind.
  • Figures are never screenshots of the interactive view.

Standing, the mask rule, the method and implementation identifiers, the ring SHA-256 (with a copy control), and the Not established list:

  • Scientific admission (this is an exploratory user ROI).
  • Validation, publication, DOI, endorsement or accuracy of the result.
  • Error bars or uncertainty: τ is a slope-RMS data-quality cutoff only.
  • Anything beyond the PGDA Site01 5 m inputs listed in Source.

The slope_quality/v1 definition: the validity rules, the inclusion rule and the meaning of τ. See Standing and claims.

The frozen Site01 input manifest: the input names, their SHA-256 digests and the content-addressed store references, with copy controls for each digest.

Saved run capsules. S (or the Save run command) saves the current evaluated ROI as a local JSON capsule and opens this panel. Each entry can be restored into the workbench or downloaded. See Export.
