Residuals

A residual is an unknown or an unfinished item that could change a decision about the workbench or the project, and that is carried explicitly until it is resolved. A residual is not a failure. It marks what is not yet established.

The compact (under 768 px) workbench shell is code-present: web/r3/compact-shell.tsx, selected by useCompactLayout in web/r3/mobile.ts. Its browser checks, including the 390 px full workflow, are not committed.	Open	The compact layout is not verified as committed evidence.

Sidecar and rendering (observed in the code)

These items were observed while writing this documentation. They are recorded here so that they can be decided, not treated as settled behaviour.

Figure τ is not required to be in the evaluated τ list	The Map kind validates tau as a τ value (finite, within the allowed range) but does not require it to be one of the evaluated τ values. The UI offers only evaluated τ values.
Lab start failure is a 503	A Lab that cannot start (port busy, marimo exit, or no port within 30 s) is answered with HTTP 503, not 422.
Other failures are 500	Errors outside the mapped classes, such as a missing store file, surface as HTTP 500.

Bootstrap and evidence

These come from the project bootstrap state (CURRENT.md) and the handoff (PRO_HANDOFF.md).

Original Probe runs and observation or pair rows are unavailable	Bounded search did not recover them. Pair-level replay is therefore unavailable.
Two newly fetched browse PNGs are reference-only and unaligned	They are not used as evidence until aligned and admitted.
No synthetic observation or pair data	Observation and temporal-pair fixtures must not be invented from aggregate counts. The UI shows honest aggregate-only states; no synthetic point cloud is drawn.
Final CI standing	The final remote execution standing is recorded in the detached return (QRETURN.json and QRETURN.md in the execution run directory), not in the repository.
Admission record	The admission status is recorded in research/ADMISSION.md. This page does not restate it.

Temporal Study (0.2)

Live Studies are not reproducible	A call without archive reads Lunar ODE now. The archive grows, so the result can change. Only a retained Study replays to a fixed digest.
The retained run is one fetch	Archive currentness and a coherent provider snapshot are not established (limit 3). The 14 October 2026 run counted 108 products before and after paging.
Source authenticity	Digests show the retained bytes did not change, not that the provider served genuine data (limit 4).
Only one site is registered	vikram is the only entry in lunartrace.sites. Another site works as a (lat, lon) tuple, fetched live (or from your own retained directory), with an ad hoc event basis and no registered rationale.
Publication	Package published to PyPI; no live documentation site and no DNS. The site is an operator decision (see Release status).

Documentation

Residual	Status
The documentation site is built with Astro Starlight (docs-site/). The Sphinx configuration (docs/conf.py) is no longer in the working tree.	Migration is under way; some sections are being written.
The Python API reference is generated from the source by tools/gen_api_docs.py. Generated pages are not edited by hand.	Generator is tracked in Git.
